Six Episcopal Churches in and around Newark, NJ founded the Apostles' House
in 1984. A wide array of programs and services including Emergency Shelter for
women and children, Transitional Housing, and Family Preservation Services are
provided.
In 1999 our Food Pantry served over 10,000 individuals. Our Emergency
Shelter housed 350 women and children and our Family Preservation Program
served 75 families.

Our Mission
To provide comprehensive social services to homeless and at risk families
and individuals in an environment that encourages and enables
self-sufficiency.

Agency Profile
The Apostles' House is a multipurpose social service agency that provides
comprehensive services in a caring environment. We currently operate 98
programs including our Food Pantry, Shelter, Transitional Housing, Family
Preservation, and Multigenerational (seniors and pregnant teens). The agency
participates in many collaborative efforts including but not limited to:
United way Vision Council, Ryan White Network, Irvington General Hospital,
East Orange General Hospital, Essex Substance Abuse Treatment Center, Inc.
Sandra Accomarido is our CEO and has been with the Agency since 1993.
Currently we have a staff of 38 persons, 50% of our staff is bi-lingual and
the majority of our employees live in the community.
