NEWS HUD Continuum of Care Awards Announced
Isaiah House was awarded $1,229,739 in funding under HUD's 2006 Continuum of Care Super NOFA. $666,855 represents a new 3 year award for permanent housing for women with HIV/AIDS. $463,500 was awarded for a 3-year renewal of our Disabled Head of Household Project, serving disabled female heads-of-household and their dependent children. Additionally, we received $99,384 as the Sponsor Agency for the City of East Orange's Shelter + Care Project for Disabled Single Adults who reside in the City of East Orange. ___________________ East Orange Campus High School Gymnasium Naming Ceremony Former Isaiah House Board President George Ballard was honored January 10, 2007 when Mayor Bowser joined countless friends and family in the renaming and dedication ceremony of the East Orange Campus High School Gymnasium in honor of Mr. Ballard. George William Ballard was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church which he joined in 1970. He served on the Vestry at Christ Episcopal Church and served as Senior Warden. Mr. Ballard was a founding member of the Christ Church Chapter of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew. He was also a licensed lay minister. Mr. Ballard was active in many aspects of the civic life in East Orange, where he served on the Board of Education as President and Vice President. He also served on the planning and development Board of the City of Eat Orange; the Board of Trustees of the YMCA Metro division; and a commissioner of the Touch Football League of Essex county. Mr. Ballard, a World War II veteran, was devoted to helping children. His calm, sincerity, and spiritual manner had a way of bringing people together to help with solutions.. ____________________ African American Fund of New Jersey Awards Isaiah House Technology Grant Isaiah House teen programming received funds from the African American Fund of New Jersey in the amount of $3500. With the support of African American Fund of New Jersey, Isaiah House was able to update one of the residental teen program computer labs with equipment and software. This technology project will allow youth to engage in technologically oriented life skills and education program modules. |
