Homelessness Prevention: Rental Arrears, Relocation & Utility Assistance Program

This program is for working East Orange residents who have low income (not from public assistance) and have children. It is intended to assist people who are behind on the rent, need a security deposit, or are in danger of having their utilities shut off.

What paperwork is needed to apply?

For rental arrears: a court summons, rental lease, birth certificate or social security card for each child, proof of income and two forms of identification, one with a photo.

For relocation: proof of eviction or displacement, birth certificate or social security card for each child, proof of income and two forms of identification, one with a photo.

For utility (PSE&G): a bill with a shut-off notice,rental lease, birth certificate or social security card for each child, proof of income and two forms of identification, one with a photo.

How much funding do you provide?

For rental arrears: 1 month's rent

For relocation: 1-1/2 month's rent is usual security deposit

For utility (PSE&G): Maximum of $500

How long does it take to receive the funding?

Not long. Once all documentation is received and verified, it can be a matter of days.

How often can I apply for assistance?

Once a year.

Do you accept donations?

Yes. Isaiah House accepts all kinds of donations, from clothing to household items, linen, toiletries, etc. We ask that donations are clean and in good condition. You can bring them to us or we will try to pick them up.
